Damn Texting Cartoon

This cartoon was inspired by something I saw on one of my speaking trips. A man and wife were seated in a nice restaurant waiting for their meal. Throughout the entire dinner he ignored his wife preferring to text whomever about whatever. No wonder family relationships are in trouble. When they left I immediately took out my pad and paper and sketched this cartoon.

Update: New Cartoon

Hope you all had a happy holiday and didn't eat as much as I did. Will I ever learn? It is snowing gently here in central Canada as I write this to you. The trees on the golf course across the street are covered with clean crisp snow flakes and it looks like a post card scene. There is just so much beauty around us and so many of us don't slow down to appreciate it.

ANYWAY... here is another cartoon to promote enjoyment and reduce the stress of life. Enjoy. Mike

A Quote by Billy Graham on Humor

The popular Evangelist Billy Graham once said this about the value of humor and laughter in our lives.

" Laughter helps us overlook the unbecoming, understand the unconventional, tolerate the unpleasant, overcome the unexpected and outlast the unbearable."

I totally agree with this quote but continue to be puzzled as to why people don't unleash this fantastic therapeutic power in their lives.

" If it feels great to laugh then why not laugh to feel great."

Story #2

There once were two adult brothers whose father was in jail
for murder. He had been a criminal all his adult life and it
had finally caught up with him. One of the brothers had
followed in the Father's footsteps and was in and out of jail
for various offences. The other brother was a well respected,
successful businessman and was living in a nice house with his
beautiful family.

When a journalist heard of the two brothers and their
differing life situations he thought their story would would
be interesting to his readers.

He arranged to interview each brother individually and
prepared a set of questions he wanted to ask.

Both brothers were asked this question and their answers were
revealing. Why did you turn out the way you did?

Both brothers had the same answer..." How could we have turned
out otherwise with a Father like ours?

Become a Storyteller People Want to Listen To

Anyone who has heard me speak knows that I'm a big time believer in the art and power of storytelling. Every speech I deliver is generously laced with stories that amuse, inform, entertain and challenge my audiences.

Ever since we were young children we've had a hunger for stories and this hunger does not vanish with age. I read recently that we, as adults, listen to over 100,000 stories a year and I have no difficulty believing it. I think the number is actually higher when you consider that one phone call from a friend can contain over a dozen stories.

If I were asked to identify the secret to successful public speaking I would say, without hesitation, the ability to tell a great story.

Storytelling isn't just vital to public speakers, it is a very important skill to have in any social situation.

To learn more about how you can master the captivating art of storytelling in your personal and professional life visit my storytelling website.

When you order the audio Art of Storyttelling CD you receive a free subscription to my 30 Inspirational and motivational stories FREE. Have 2 stories sent to you each week for 15 weeks.

Some Thoughts About Humor

It was a beautiful Fall day here in Canada- a great day to put the lawnmower away and get the snow blower out of the shed. It won't be long now until the snow flies.

I have been getting a lot of requests to speak on the healing nature of humor and I really welcome the opportunities. Here are a few thoughts I have put together on the topic.

1. Humor is another of the soul's weapons in the fight for self preservation. Victor Frankl

2. Every time a person laughs or smiles something great is added to the fabric of life.

3.Everything humor touches improves.

4. Always look for comedy in your chaos.

Avoid Getting Old

We are all members of the TOO MUCH and TOO LITTLE Generation

We eat too much
Drink too much
worry too much
Get angry too much
Watch TV too much
Fear too much

Laugh too little
Smile too little
play too little
exercise too little

On it goes.

One of the fears a great many of us have is Getting Old with all the misperceptions our youth oriented culture has sold us. I have written and illustrated a book on the subject and it sells out every time I speak.

A Little Spiritual Reflection

Something to think about.

The Value of a Smile

I was reading recently that, at Las Vegas blackjack tables, dealers who smile bring in 5% more revenue than the dealers who don't. The writer seems to believe that when people see a smiling face they immediately think the person smiling is on their side. Interesting!

Taming the Toxic People in Your Life

Ten Terrific Ways to Tame the Toxic People in Your Life

Some people are harmful to our health according to Canadian
motivational speaker/ humorist Mike Moore. “ Toxic people make up about ten percent of the population, but cause over fifty percent of all damage done to relationships in your private and professional life.” Moore says. “ If we don’t learn to deal effectively with the difficult people in our lives we risk losing our health and our sense of well being.”

People are often toxic because they get away with it and it works for them.

Assert yourself and toxic, aggressive behaviour begins to disappear.

Moore, author of the 8 week online course, “ Taming the Toxic People in Your Life ” speaks to organizations throughout the United States and Canada offering simple and effective strategies on becoming assertive and coping with the people in your life that make your life hellish. “People don’t exist to be the personal doormats of verbal bullies,” Moore insists.

You can’t change toxic people, but you can learn how to cope

with them and neutralize their toxic impact on your health.

Here are 10 Effective ways to handle the toxic people in your life

* Always stand at eye level with the person you are confronting. Never have them standing over you looking down.

* Respect the toxic person and always expect respect in return. Settle for nothing less.

* Remain calm.

* Listen attentively.

* Don't argue or interrupt, just listen.

* Don't accuse or judge, just state how you feel.

* If the toxic person tries to verbally bully you, just say, " I don't allow people to treat me this way." Then slowly and calmly walk away.

* When someone is being toxic to you here is a powerful response and one that is easy to use because you don't have to say a word. In the midst of a toxic attack just PAUSE....LOOK AT THE PERSON, WITHOUT EMOTION......TURN AND WALK AWAY. It works!

* Anger is sometimes a valid response.

* If all else fails you might be left with only one option; to separate yourself from the toxic person in your life.

YOU DON'T EXIST TO BE SOMEONE'S PERSONAL GARBAGE DUMP.

Humorous Verse

Hi. I was giving a talk to a group in Hamilton Ontario Canada recently. As I always do I checked out the staff bulletin board to get a sense of the organization's culture. I find that the staff bulletin board gives you a good sense of what's going on in the company. There, on the bulletin board, was this little verse. I liked it and wrote it down in my ever-present notebook. Here it is.

I wish I was a glowworm
Because glowworms are never glum
How can you be gloomy
When the sun shines out your bum?

The Humor and Health Connection

Light Up With Laughter

HUMOR IN THE WORKPLACE by Mike Moore

1. Humor reduces stress levels and stress is the number one problem confronting employees today.

2. Laughter boosts morale while stress erodes staff morale. It is in the best interest of any business to invest in the happiness of its employees. Laughter is an effective barometer of just how happy your people are.

3. Keeping things in perspective tends to boost morale and humor helps us keep things in perspective.

4. Humor helps facilitate change. Change is inevitable and people who laugh well and often tend to be more flexible and adaptable.

5. Communication improves when humor is used appropriately. The timely use of humor can get a point across effectively and assists in the process of problem solving.

6. Laughter and humor relieve boredom and increase creative energy.

7. Humor builds confidence. When we laugh at ourselves we are less rigid and more spontaneous. We tend to bounce back more quickly when negative things happen. Humor also makes us less fearful of making mistakes and more confident about overcoming setbacks.

8. Laughter and humor promote positive relationships. When you hear a funny story your first impulse is to tell someone and share the laughter. When laughter is shared a natural bonding takes place.

9. Humor promotes happiness and joy. It's good to be alive.

10. Quality relationships are measured by the amount of laughter present. When relationships are good, people laugh a lot. The same applies to businesses. When employees enjoy one another and laugh easily and often, we see performance improve and profits increase.

11. The humor I speak of here must never be based on laughing at someone, racism, sexism, put downs, sarcasm or ridicule. These forms of humor are destructive attempts at making one look good by making another look and feel badly. There is enough good humor to last a lifetime. Just look for it.
THEY WHO LAUGH............LAST.

Island of Peace in a Chaotic World

As many of you know I earn my living speaking throughout Canada and the USA on Humor and Human Wellness. Frequently I get so wrapped up in my work that I have to stop and take my own advice. I have to stop and smell the roses.

That's what I did recently in one of the most beautiful and relaxing settings on earth for me... a friend's farm in the heart of Ontario Canada's Ottawa Valley.

I sat out on their deck one morning overlooking the valley as the morning sun gently caressed the meadow and a mother bluebird eagerly fed her young at one of the bluebird boxes rimming the field. As I sat there soaking up the peace and solitude I became acutely aware of a different rhythm, one of calmness and oneness with the natural world.

I was reminded of the words of Sigurd Olson, the nature writer, who once said that we all need listening points on the earth where we can slow down and listen to the rhythm of the universe.

This pleasant farm near the little country town of Beachburg Ontario is one of my listening points. It's a place filled with fond memories of country music jam sessions, shared laughter and shared pain. It is also a place of peace, hope and comfort as the stillness of the valley eagerly wraps it arms around those who take time to rest and receive the message that life indeed is good and love is abundant and eternal.

Sad Facts About the Human Condition Today

* The World Health Organization says that by the year 2020 depression will be the leading cause of disability throughout the developed world.

* We live in an age of rage: road rage, air rage and now work rage.

* Eighty percent of us have low self esteem and twenty percent need a boost.

* We only achieve between 2 and 5 percent of our potential.

* Joy has vanished from our lives.

* Uncontrolled stress is killing us.

* While children laugh over 400 time a day, adults can manage only 15.

* Fear rules our lives: fear of getting old, fear of failure, rejection, death, etc.

Remember that joy and happiness are our birthrights, so fight for them. Life is too wonderful not to be enjoyed.

Hey,,, we aren't here for a long time so let's make it a good time!!

Top Ten Ways to Relax On the Go By Mike Moore

1. Take three deep breaths slowly. It really works to relax the body and mind.

2. Relax the tongue. Usually the tongue is held tightly against the teeth. Free it up in the mouth so it can just rest there without tension.

3. Take one minute vacations. In your mind visit places where you find peace and stillness. Picture yourself there soaking up the beauty and solitude.

4. Relax your facial muscles. When we are tense we frown and squint which adds to the tension. Tell your facial muscles to relax and they will. Try to maintain this relaxed face throughout the day.

5. Move slowly. When you find yourself rushing for no reason, SLOW DOWN.

6. Laugh more. Laughter cuts stress in half and promotes relaxation

7. Listen to beautiful music. Mozart calms the restless spirit.

8. Watch and enjoy the sunset.

9. Visualize yourself as a balloon being inflated. As you breathe in, the balloon fills with your stress and tension. Then breathe out all the stress and tension leaving yourself limp and relaxed.

10. Enjoy the rhythm and beauty of nature for its lessons are patience and peace

TEN TERRIFIC SELF- MOTIVATING TIPS By Mike Moore

No one can motivate anyone to do anything. All a person can do for another is provide them with incentives to motivate themselves. Here are ten very effective strategies to help you get up and get moving toward actualizing your enormous, untapped potential.

* Be willing to leave your comfort zone. The greatest barrier to achieving your potential is your comfort zone. Great things happen when you make friends with your discomfort zone.

* Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Wisdom helps us avoid making mistakes and comes from making a million of them.

* Don't indulge in self-limiting thinking. Think empowering, expansive thoughts.

*Choose to be happy. Happy people are easily motivated. Happiness is your birthright so don't settle for anything else.

* Spend at least one hour a day in self-development. Read good books or listen to inspiring tapes. Driving to and from work provides an excellent opportunity to listen to self-improvement tapes.

* Train yourself to finish what you start. So many of us become scattered as we try to accomplish a task. Finish one task before you begin another.

* Live fully in the present moment. When you live in the past or the future you aren't able to make things happen in the present.

* Commit yourself to joy. C.S. Lewis once said, " Joy is the serious business of heaven."

* Never quit when you experience a setback or frustration. Success could be just around the corner.

* Dare to dream big dreams. If there is anything to the law of expectation then we are moving in the direction of our dreams, goals and expectations.

The real tragedy in life is not in how much we suffer, but rather in how much we miss, so don't miss a thing.

Charles Dubois once said, " We must be prepared, at any moment, to sacrifice who we are for who we are capable of becoming."

Humorous Oneliners

George Bernard Shaw once said that if you find something funny search it for hidden truth. Here are few pearls of wisdom packaged in humour. Enjoy.

1. You wouldn't worry what people thought about you if you only knew how seldom they did.

2. To expect life to treat you fairly because you're a good person is like expecting a bull not to charge you because you're a vegetarian.

3.Worry is like a rocking chair; it will give you something to do, but won't get you anywhere.

4. Pain and suffering are a lot like gas....they too shall pass.

5. Always borrow money from a pessimist. They don't expect to be paid back.

6. Anyone who says that swimming is good for the figure has never taken a real good look at a whale.

7. A bore is always "ME" deep in conversation.

8. Some people think their lives are full, when really they're just cluttered.

9. If at first you don't succeed, try not to be amazed.

10. A leader without a sense of humour is like a grass cutter at a cemetery. You have a lot of people under you paying absolutely no attention.

The fear of public speaking is the #1 fear most people have. Not the fear of death but the fear of speaking in public.

How to Overcome your Public Speaking Fear

* Confront your fear head on and you are well on your way to overcoming your public speaking fear.

* Force yourself to speak in public and you start the process of conquering your public speaking fear.

* Look for opportunities to introduce people and thnk people at meeting or at banquets.

* Apply the " Act As If Principle" which says that if you act confidently when you don't feel confident you soon become the way you act. Try it. It works effectively to overcome your public speaking fear.

* Always remember that we are all equal in dignity. No one is superior to another so don't be intimidated when it comes to letting your light shine.

Humor in the Photo Shop

I just came home from picking up the photos from our recent trip to the World War One and Two sites in France and Belgium. The clerk at the Photo Shop looked at me and seriously asked if I was a Vet of World War ONE....Not TWO but ONE!!! I started to laugh and told him, that there were no WW1 vets living. I left thinking that I must look ancient. NO WAY!!! Humor is everywhere and sometimes hits you right in the gut!!!! Ouch!!! Another great story for my speaker's collection. I'll file it under perception and stupidity.

The Benefits of Public Speaking

Hi. Here is it 5 a.m. and I am wide awake due to jet lag. Thought I might as well do somethng productive so I put this together. I hope it motivates you to overcome the #1 fear people have.

Why It Is In Your Best Interest To Speak without Fear

Benefits of a Public Speaking

1. Public speaking builds confidence. When you experience the thrill of holding an audience in the palm of your hand and receive their appreciative applause your confidence soars.

2. Public speaking boosts your self esteem. When you see the audience relate to you as someone who really knows what you are talking about your self esteem increases. And we all can use an increase in self esteem.

3. People start looking at you in a more positive way. Even if you never use your public speaking skills in giving formal presentations, people will notice that you are more articulate and confident in expressing an opinion or sharing an insight. You will discover that they begin looking to you for advice and opinions on many issues.

4. It helps you become a more organized thinker. Planning, writing and delivering a well researched , well organized presentation has an overflow effect in other areas of your life. You begin to plan and organize your thoughts more effectively. This is especially helpful in your career or business. When your manager or supervisor asks your opinion on some work- related issue you are better able to express your ideas in a clear, concise and well organized manner.

5. Public speaking begins to alter your self perception. As you begin to use the skills involved in public speaking you will notice that you begin to start talking to yourself in a more positive way. You begin to see yourself as capable and confident.

6. By accepting the challenge to speak in public you begin to explore and actualize your own potential. Many of us go through life not realizing how much we are capable of achieving. Public speaking is an effective tool in the process of self discovery.

7. Public speaking gives you the courage to break out of your comfort zone. I believe that the comfort zone is the enemy of human growth. When we are too comfortable where we are we tend to become stagnant. Speaking in public pushes us out of the comfort zone and reveals to us our enormous capabilities.

If you feel compelled to share your expertise or message with others do so. Start slowly and start small but start. The benefits and rewards are tremendous.

The Importance of a Smile

I read recently that people who smile when being interviewed for a job significantly increase the likelihood of being hired. Interesting.

Also... People who sing while they drive lessen the likelihood of experiencing road rage by 75 percent.

Also... Las Vegas Black Jack dealers who smile while dealing bring in 5 percent more revenue than those who don't. The writer believes that it's because the players feel that the dealer is on their side when the dealer smiles.
